TASCQ, the traders group in Temple Bar, are inviting aspiring artists to create unique pieces of art and submit them for consideration to be displayed in the area. This chance to see your artwork on display in Dublin City will also help to enhance the beauty of the area and create a kind of ‘outdoor gallery space’ in Dublin’s cultural quarter, bringing art to the street in a very creative way.

Invoke Street Art is an exciting new public art project, increasing the use and enjoyment of public space. The project will turn traffic signal boxes in five locations in Dublin, which in many cases may be vandalized with graffiti, into a platform for original, imaginative artwork. The boxes are located in Parliament Street, Fishamble Street, Essex Street, Eustace Street and O’Connell Bridge.

Submission deadline is 5pm on 5th July.

Artists participating should draw upon the vibrancy, creativity and bohemian feel of Temple Bar for inspiration whilst paying attention to the surroundings of each traffic signal box when designing their artwork.

Public art projects utilizing these traffic signal box are already in operation worldwide in places such as St Benedict.s Florida, Santa Cruz L.A, Staten Island New York, Halifax Canada.

According to Martin Harte, General Manger of TASCQ, ‘Public art makes the place that we live, work and play more welcoming and attractive. It creates a deeper interaction between the community and the environment as well as adding dimension to civic spaces. Once completed the Temple Bar area will become a walking gallery displaying creative imaginative artwork to the public.’

Invoke Street Art is currently seeking artists to participate in this pilot project commissioned by T.A.S.C.Q (Traders in the Area Supporting the Cultural Quarter). In order to be considered the submitted artwork must meet certain criteria.
